Daegis announces the release of DocHunter Version 3.5

Daegis is pleased to announce the release of the latest version of its on-line native file review tool, DocHunter. The ASP is a comprehensive search and hosting platform that allows users to rapidly filter and review their electronic file population for discovery and production purposes. Since the launch of DocHunter in 2003, Daegis’ in-house product development team has constantly worked to upgrade the product to leverage advancements in technology.

To that end, DocHunter Version 3.5 includes the integration of the proprietary collection application, DHCollect. DHCollect enables the user to selectively target and collect documents from hard drives and other media including network shares via DocHunter’s online platform. This allows for remote collaboration between the collection specialist, the custodian, and counsel.

DHCollect executes targeted collections by allowing the collection specialist to view a custodian’s media contents real-time via a web meeting. DHCollect scans the media and creates a catalog file into which the custodian’s file metadata is imported. The catalog includes filenames, folders, file attributes, file timestamps and other file system information. In collaboration with the custodian and counsel, the collection specialist is able identify a subset of documents to collect via a simple folder tree and advanced searching and sorting. Once all relevant documents have been discovered and selected, DHCollect makes an exact copy of the selected data, preserving the maximum available file system metadata. DHCollect calculates MD5 and SHA1 hashes to verify the integrity of the data throughout the process. DÆGIS can then utilize the selected file information to locate the data that needs to be processed and uploaded to DocHunter for review.

In addition to this functionality, DHCollect has the ability to perform remote collections via the internet. According to Doug Stewart, Daegis’ Director of Technology, "We developed DHCollect to augment our collection capabilities, giving clients an array of options based on project circumstances. DHCollect not only perfects the targeted collection process, but it allows for us to collect from custodians in remote locations. DHCollect offers a real solution by providing a preliminary, online review platform for culling datasets."

In addition to the integration of DHCollect, DocHunter has undergone many enhancements with the release of Version 3.5. Improvements were designed to allow the end-user and the Daegis Project Management team to efficiently navigate and manipulate large datasets. Specifically, this release focuses on the improvement of Daegis’ production capabilities in terms of speed and accuracy. Daegis has also developed several backend processes that continue to improve the overall performance of DocHunter.
